Hi, I am Stephen Robert of Cajun Country / Sportsman’s Paradise, Houma, Louisiana about 50 miles southwest of New Orleans. Growing up, you could always find me hunting or fishing in the
bayous or marshes in my free time. I have always had a knack for competitive fishing, following in my father’s footsteps competing in multiple local tournaments every year. In 2002, I jumped into
the major world of competitive fishing with my father chasing Redfish on the Inshore Fishing
Association’s Redfish Tour and the ESPN Redfish Cup. In 2004, I became very involved in the
Fly Fishing World. I set out to chase Records with the long rod and successfully landed the #3 Black Drum in the State of Louisiana along with 2 top 10 entries for Southern Flounder in
Louisiana. In 2008, I set my goals for an even bigger prize and in June of 2008, I was able to land the International Game Fish Association World Record Back Drum on 2lb class tippet and still stands today. I turned to more of a teaching and conservation role and joined the Louisiana
Wildlife tagging community tagging Redfish and Speckled Trout for data studies to track the movement of these sport gamefish. In this same time, he engaged in the Fly Fishing and Tying community teaching how to tie several fly patterns ranging from Fresh to Saltwater and even Bluewater fishing. From 2010 to 2021, I founded and ran the Fin-Addict Fly Fishers Fly Fishing club in Houma, Louisiana. In 2015, I was awarded Fly Tier of the Year in the Louisiana
Sportsman’s Magazine and later in 2017 was awarded Fly Tier of the Year by the Federation Fly
Fishers – Gulf Coast Council. From 2017 to 2018, I served as Executive Vice President for the
Federation Fly Fishers – Gulf Coast Council.
In 2018, I got a calling to jump back into the competitive fishing world and started to pursue
what my father brought me up on and that was chasing; Sac-A-Lait (aka: Crappie). Started out
competing locally and getting my feet wet and back in the game. In 2020, I decided to make the
jump into the National Crappie scene and compete in Crappie Master’s, Crappie USA, National Crappie League and other local tournaments in my home state and I have never looked back.
My home waters consist of the vast marshes of the Houma area but, consider my home lakes to be Lake Verret, Grassy Lake and Lake Palourde.
